However, Matthews and Kinghan had to recreate most of the Minor Arcana, and while the 80 illuminated watercolor paintings are rich with tarot symbolism, as a functioning tarot deck, the manuscript remained incomplete.

I bought this deck off Amazon because it was fairly cheap and I thought I would learn with it, I’m fairly new at Tarot and I’m having the toughest time. Much of the symbolism is very different from your standard Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot deck, so don’t expect to just pop this deck out of the box and begin reading with it. The other tarot deck you purchased sounds like it will be a good one to learn on – good luck 🙂

I recommend getting the basic Rider-Waite Tarot (the Universal Waite deck is my fave) and learning on that – you can compare the cards from the Nostradamus tarot to the Rider tarot and learn the deck that way. This was due to the fact that the imagery, card names and suits differ from the standard Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot deck and the cards have Roman numerals on them.

The illustrations have a mediaeval feel to them and contain symbols that are both easily recognisable and very different from other Tarot decks. The price makes it the added bonus as if you buy a good quality tarot deck with a good book in a great box for less than 10 pounds it’s for me a bargain. But, if you go beyond that you will find out that using Nostradamus’ prophecies and drawings, linking them to tarot makes some sense.

When the tarot deck of the same name hit the market in 2012, I confess to having a dismissive opinion of it based on reading those earlier articles.

Tarot hadn’t yet gelled into the more-or-less standard and recognizable format which it attained in subsequent years; we have copies of decks like the Minchiate and Sola Busca to bear that out. So there are legitimate questions whether or not this body of text and imagery was indeed the conception of a tarot deck or something else.

Unlike the tradition Tarot suits of Pentacles, Swords, Cups, and Wands this deck has the Spheres, Stars, Moons, and Suns respectively. In my opinion, The Lost Tarot of Nostradamus is a worthy addition to any Tarot collection. The Lost Tarot of Nostradamus is quickly becoming on of my favorite Tarot decks.

My final thought on the Lost Tarot of Nostradamus is that if you are a Tarot reader who has been drawn towards this deck and have been curious, go for it! Prepare to spend some real time getting to know and understand its language, though. It’s, frankly, the best companion book I’ve had the pleasure of reading with a Tarot deck.

The interpretations stray quite a bit from traditional tarot and I really like them! I like decks that don’t follow the Rider Waite procedure of interpretation. I don’t normally write reviews on the numerous decks I’ve bought off amazon, but consider this review a calling I owe to the makers of the deck and Nostradamus ofcourse
