Modern tarot, which derives from mid-15th century European playing cards, has rules and structure that often feel inaccessible to newcomers: even if you’ve gotten a reading before, you may be intimidated by the cards, or wondering whether you’re witchy or cool enough to practice tarot yourself.

Tarot cards don’t predict the future. But reading them might help you figure yours out. [8]

No matter how many books on tarot and decks of cards I amass like dust bunnies, I don’t fluently speak the language of tarot and its more obscure meanings; it’s the equivalent of trying to read Proust in the original French when you stopped taking the language in third grade.

Easy Tarot Spreads for Love, Life, and Career Guidance [9]

Although tarot spreads can seem daunting, reading tarot cards can be as simple (pulling one each morning to start your day) or as in-depth (spending some quality time trying out the beloved Celtic Cross spread, which displays 10 cards to show you a situation from all sides — including, but not limited to, advice on the current situation, and the likely outcome) as you want it to be.

Tarot for Beginners: A Guide to Psychic Tarot Reading, Real Tarot Card Meanings, and Simple Tarot Spreads (Divination for Beginners Series) eBook : Chamberlain, Lisa: Amazon.in: Kindle Store [10]

This is a great book for beginners. My daughter is wanting to learn the tarot and bought herself a beginners package of cards and small instruction book, although the cards were beautiful and the book was helpful, it was very basic with just a few lines about each card.I purchased this book for my daughter and am pleased with information within. There is brief history of tarot and then a page to each card with a little more detailed descriptions of meanings. There are also instructions on doing reading a ‘three card spread’ and a ‘Celtic cross spread’ .I found it an interesting read as a more experienced reader and a great asset to beginner. At the end of book there are suggestions for further reading. This is a lovely book covering history, meanings and basic readings. At less than £5 it’s a real bargain and I’m sure will become a well read little book.

Reading the Tarot – The Ultimate Guide to the Rider Waite Tarot Cards: The #1 Workbook for Learning How to Read Tarot Cards, Tarot Card Meanings, and Simple Tarot Spreads to Get You Started Kindle Edition Everything from love, money, family, and more can be reflected in the cards, all you have to do is learn to understand them, and that’s what ‘Reading the Tarot’ can do for you.

In summary as now I’m aware of consistent omissions I find it altogether quite frustrating I’ll begrudgingly keep rather than return the book though I am dissatisfied it’s either an ultimate guide or it is not, & this sadly isn’t, neither because of the omissions can it fairly be described as the No 1 Workbook for learning how to read the tarot.

Tarot card reading [16]

For example, some tarot users may believe the cards themselves are magically providing answers, while others may believe a supernatural force or a mystical energy is guiding the cards into a layout. de M.***,[b] who has been identified as Major General Louis-Raphaël-Lucrèce de Fayolle, Comte de Mellet.[23] This second essay is “considerably more impressive” than de Gébelin’s, albeit “as full of assertions with no basis in truth”,[23] being noted to have been even more influential than Court de Gébelin’s.[23] The author makes no acknowledgement of de Gébelin and, although he agrees with all his main conclusions, he also contradicts de Gébelin over such details as the meaning of the word “Tarot” and in how the cards spread across Europe.[23] Morever, he takes de Gébelin’s speculations even further, agreeing with him about the mystical origins of the tarot in ancient Egypt, but making several additional, and influential, statements that continue to influence mass understanding of the occult tarot even to this day.[24] He made the first statements proposing that the tarot was “The Book of Thoth” and made the first association of tarot with cartomancy. Lévi accepted Court de Gébelin’s claims that the deck had an Egyptian origin, but rejected Etteilla’s interpretation and rectification of the cards in favor of a reinterpretation of the Tarot de Marseille.[39] He called it The Book of Hermes and claimed that the tarot was antique, existed before Moses, and was in fact a universal key of erudition, philosophy, and magic that could unlock Hermetic and Qabalistic concepts.[40] According to Lévi, “An imprisoned person with no other book than the Tarot, if he knew how to use it, could in a few years acquire universal knowledge, and would be able to speak on all subjects with unequaled learning and inexhaustible eloquence.”[41]

Greer, the author of Tarot for Your Self: A Wookbook for the Inward Journey (1984), and Rachel Pollack, the author of Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom (1980/1983).[90][91] Tarot cards also began to gain popularity as a divinatory tool in countries like Japan, where hundreds of new decks have been designed in recent years.[92] The democratization of digital publishing in the 2000s and 2010s led to a new explosion of tarot decks as artists became increasingly able to self-publish their own, with the contemporaneous empowerment of feminist, LGBTQ+ and other marginalized communities providing a ready market for such work.[93][94] Next to the usage of tarot cards to divine for others by professional cartomancers, tarot is also used widely as a device for seeking personal guidance and spiritual growth.
