Food Fortunes Card Deck by Josh Lafayette is a very unique divination deck/oracle deck/tarot deck… So this deck was not meant to be taken seriously as a tarot deck- though that is to say, if you can do it then good for you! Even the suggested card spreads are merely for the sake of choosing your next lunch. I’d call it a novelty, divination deck for the foodie lover that can also be used as a tarot deck.

There are 78 cards in this deck, which are divided into the major arcana and minor arcana just like in traditional tarot decks. Does the creator not realize this deck is structured like Tarot, or any other divinity deck even? There are the same amount of cards as in Tarot, there are “Trumps” (majors), there are even court cards, but then literally ZERO information or even mention of how to translate this to the standard Tarot system? Smh.

First off, I would like to inform you all that this is not really a tarot deck. That being said, I do see these cards as being useful if you truly want to know what the universe is recommending for you food-wise (out of the foods provided in the deck of course), and you can also just use this deck to make your family and friends giggle.

As you can see just below the “Product Description” title above, I did a 3 card spread the day after I received the cards, and it was all very straightforward (there are other spreads to try also)! I’m glad you asked these last two questions together because while I was drawing Food Fortunes I kept thinking that it would be so great to have a vegetarian or vegan version of the deck. When I first cracked this deck open I was like – OMG the art is freaking incredible! Then I was like – OMG it’s pizza on a Tarot card! Then I was like OMG how do I read this thing, like does this actually relate to RWS (Rider-Waite Smith) symbolism or what the actual heck is going on with this deck? So I made a video about that, basically like “what are you doing with this deck, Josh LaFayette?” along with my awesome interpretations of the Knight of Sides card (it’s about following your mashed potato dreams, obviously). But after hearing so much from the tarot community, I hope that Food Fortunes can help card readers sharpen their intuition and deepen their practice in a not-so-serious way.
